End of Summer Air Conditioner Maintenance Tips

Cincinnati End-of-Summer AC Tips | Nelson Comfort

The end of summer can mean different things for your family. A big ones is kids starting school. Because of that, electronic use at home decreases. But chances are your air conditioner is still working to keep your family comfortable, even though the summer heat is decreasing. The end of summer is a great time for any maintenance work to make sure your system performs at peak capacity for any weird Cincinnati weather.

Change Your Air Filters

Air filters help move air from the unit to the various rooms in your home. Your air conditioner and heater will use the same air filters. If you notice differing temperatures in the rooms of your home, your filters may need changed or cleaned. Different air filters need changed at different times. Normally, it’s every six months. Make sure the air filter you have is changed within that time frame. Otherwise, it can slow down your system and affect the next season’s ability to keep your family comfortable.

Clean the Exterior of the Unit

You want the inside of your home to look nice. Make sure the same is done for the outside! Clearing away any debris, like fallen leaves, dust, or sticks, makes your air conditioning unit look better. But it also ensures your unit works properly. Cleaning the exterior also prevents debris from entering the system. Things that don’t belong in your system negatively impacts the functionality of your system. This causes your system to work harder. Additionally, any debris that enters your system could cause fires or other hazards to your home. Keeping the exterior clean cuts down on that likelihood.

Check the Unit’s Functionality

You know what’s normal for your air conditioner. Conversely, you know isn’t normal for the unit. If you notice your air conditioner sounds different, it’s a sign there may be a problem. Similarly, if there’s an unusual smell, don’t ignore it. If you notice something isn’t right with your air conditioner, don’t wait to get in touch with us. Instead, schedule an appointment in order to nip the problem in the bud.

Schedule a Maintenance Checkup

The best way to ensure your system is ready for weather change is to schedule maintenance checkups. Therefore, this gets one of our technicians out to your home to do a test of the system. Hopefully, everything is working normally and you don’t have to worry. However, if something isn’t working properly, it can get fixed in a timely manner. The sooner you schedule a checkup, the more peace of mind you’ll have for upcoming season changes. Usually, fall and spring are the best times to get a system check. Because those are normally milder than summer or winter, it’s the best time to make sure your system is ready for the next big temperature change.

As the weather cools, the last thing on your mind is your home’s air conditioner. To prevent any potential mishaps for next year, it’s always a good idea to have regular maintenance done on the systems. Contact Nelson Comfort for all of your heating and cooling needs!
